Fil Mendes is a founding partner of Amaral Mendes LLP.

Fil is an experienced civil litigator. He has represented both plaintiffs and defendants, at all levels of Ontario courts and before various administrative tribunals, in a wide range of disputes, including contract disputes, personal injury claims, professional malpractice, property disputes, debt collection, and claims related to business, employment, insurance, and other areas of law. He has established a particular expertise in defending claims arising from motor vehicle accidents and claims brought against municipalities, professionals, and property owners/occupiers.

Fil was born and raised in London, Ontario. He attended Western University on scholarship and graduated with distinction in 2002 with an Honours B.A. in History. He received the W. Donald R. Eldon Scholarship and Robert LaVerne Eagleson Gold Medal as the top graduating student in the undergraduate history program. He also attended law school at Western University, graduating in 2005. He was called to the Bar of Ontario in 2006.

Fil is a member of the Law Society of Ontario, the Canadian Bar Association, the Ontario Bar Association, The Advocates’ Society, Canadian Defence Lawyers, the Ontario Insurance Adjusters Association, the Kitchener-Waterloo Insurance Adjusters Association, and the Waterloo Region Law Association.

Fil is fluent in Portuguese, having learned to read, write, and speak the language at an earlier age. He lives in Waterloo and is also an active member of the local community, volunteering some of his time to the Reading Buddy program at the Kitchener Public Library, and serving as the longstanding president of the Waterloo Region Portuguese Business and Professionals Association and the chair of Camp McGovern, a registered charity whose campers are little brothers, little sisters, foster children, and children from families served by United Way agencies.
